5 things stopping you from achieving your goals

What are the main reasons people don’t achieve their goals?

Because, according to statistics 92% of people who set a goal don’t achieve it.

That’s pretty abysmal!

You can see why people stop setting new year’s resolutions and goals because it starts to feel like you’re setting yourself up for failure.

I watched a webinar recently on some of the reasons why people don’t achieve their goals and these were the 5 things that came up.

  1. You don’t have the knowledge of what to do
  2. You don’t have the circle of influence
  3. You don’t have accountability
  4. You don’t know what you want (Clarity)
  5. You don’t have a 90 day goal

If I look at some of my own goals that I haven’t achieved, I can definitely see that some of the above were missing.

Those areas can be applied to any goal but we’ll look at them from a health and fitness perspective.

Knowledge; the first one is knowing what you need to do to achieve your goal. So if your goal is to lose 14lbs, what are the things you need to do? Each week and each day what are the actions you need to take?

Circle of influence: This one is often overlooked but is very important too. Who’s in your circle of influence? Are they supporting and helping you or making it harder for you and putting you off your goal?

Accountability: Who’s holding you accountable? Do you have a coach or friend/partner? You don’t have to get in person training, if you know the basics of exercise you can do online coaching for a small fee and still get that accountability. For online coaching enquiries click here.

Clarity: You have to get clear on what you want, and what you don’t want. Otherwise you’ll start something only to realise it’s not your goal or it’s just something you thought you wanted.

90 day goal: It’s good to have a long term goal, but it’s important to small chunk it into 90 day goals. E.G What’s the goal for the year? What’s the goal for the next 90 days? Then break it down into 30 days. This keeps the end goal in mind but has important progress goals that will give you a measure that you’re on track.

And then daily you want to count your wins and imagine the outcome of the big goal.

Hope this helps. Feel free to share it with your friends and if you would like some help go to the online coaching page .
